Understanding and navigating the AI landscape is challenging for nontechnical professionals – that’s why we put together the perfect AI primer without the technical headaches of learning and writing code.

On January 22nd, we hosted our inaugural Kinestry AI Primer for professionals who aren’t typically “tech-savvy” – a technical starter for the nontechnical. We had a room filled with individuals from diverse professional backgrounds ranging from Finance, M&A, Food, Design, Architecture, Creative Marketing,  and Music.

Our mission, at Kinestry, is to help organizations navigate a rapidly changing landscape, operate their transformation and embrace AI in the workplace. But as much as it is overwhelming for an IT engineer to understand how to develop a career in AI, it can be overwhelming for decision-makers to conceptualize the way to a successful digital transformation.

In the span of six hours, our Kinestry AI Primer focused on demystifying AI, giving clarity and understanding what’s behind AI, and how it works. What’s more, our workshop went a step further and covered when and how to use AI, how an AI project should be managed, developing the skills to communicate with engineers, and applying a Human-Centered (HCD) Approach.

The History of AI

The Primer began with sharing a high-level history of AI, the Fourth Industrial Revolution, breaking down the different aspects of AI, and what is enabling its growth. Participants learned that through computing power and powerful algorithms, the Cloud, Big Data, IoT, and AI are rapidly changing cultural and business landscapes. For example, we have Artificial Narrow Intelligence in our phones, homes, and cars now. Think of Apple’s Siri, Google’s Nest, and Tesla’s autonomous driving. AI is more than ever integrated into our daily lives without many people realizing it.

Toward the middle of the Primer, we covered our high-level AI Framework around three critical pillars which are data readiness, AI Literacy and Culture, and Data Science Capabilities that enable organizations to build an AI roadmap and successfully transform their organization.

At the end of the Primer, groups engaged in a Human-Centered Design exercise to learn how to approach unique business problems with AI. The goal of the exercise was to practice HCD approach in applying a possible AI solution to real-world use cases, such as thinking as an engineering/development firm and earthquakes. More importantly, the exercise was to practice empathy when thinking about problem-solving for people, a core component in HCD.

The Kinestry AI Primer was designed and developed to be a well-rounded introduction to AI to help nontechnical professionals, from managers to high-level decision-makers, understand AI, its advantages, and its limitations. In 2017, the global AI market was valued at $16 billion. By 2025, the AI market value is expected to exceed $190 billion. As AI and its respective technologies, Cloud, IoT, and Big Data proliferate across healthcare, finance, and governance, to name a few, Kinestry prepares organizations for the disruptive change AI can bring and how it can transform their organization.
